How to Dry Silk Pillowcases

Use the following step-by-step instructions to properly dry silk pillowcases after they have been washed.

1. Spread Evenly on a Towel


Lay an absorbent towel on a flat surface and spread your silk pillowcase evenly on top. 


Tip: Use towels made from 100% cotton if you are able to. Towels made from 100% cotton material are the most absorbent and will be the most effective type of towel to use when drying silk pillowcases. 


2. Roll the Towel


Gently roll the silk pillowcase inside the towel like a sushi roll. Once the towel has been completely rolled up, apply light pressure to the top of the towel roll to help remove excess moisture from the silk fabric


3. Flip the Pillowcase


Unroll the towel, flip the pillowcase inside out, and repeat step 2. Doing this helps to further remove moisture from the pillowcase. Continue rolling the pillowcase until it is merely slightly damp, and not soaking wet.


Tip: You may also want to flip the towel over so that you can use the unused dry side.


4. Air Dry


Take the pillowcase and hang or lay flat on an indoor drying rack to air dryDry your silk pillowcases in a place that is out of contact with direct sunlight.


Tip: Hang or lay the pillowcases evenly to avoid creating any wrinkles or creases during the air drying process. 


How Long Do Silk Pillowcases Take to Dry? 

It should take your silk pillowcase approx. 2 to 6 hours to dry. Silk pillowcases must be air dried in a cool place out of contact with sunlight, and the drying process cannot be sped up with heat. If you would like to decrease drying time open a window or put a fan in the room to increase air flow. Increase air circulation will help to expedite the drying of your pillowcases. 


 Can You Put Silk in the Dryer?

No, you cannot put silk in the dryer. Using the dryer to tumble dry silk will shrink, pull, tear, and damage the fabric. In order to maintain the quality and glow of your silk fabrics for longer, be sure to lay flat or hang to air dry in a cool place out of contact with direct sunlight

How to Wash Silk Pillowcases

To wash silk pillowcases first fill a basin with lukewarm water and add a few drops of silk laundry detergent.  Submerge the pillowcases in the water and leave to soak for 3 to 5 minutes. Use your hands to mix and agitate the pillowcase in the water to remove dirt and stains. Once finished, remove the pillowcase and rinse under cool water until the water runs clear and all the soap has been removed. Roll the pillowcases in an absorbent towel and hang or lay flat to air dry.
